The planning of your wireless solution must take into account the location of the access points required to provide an adequate footprint and signal strength for all intended wireless clients. In certain applications, such as warehouses and manufacturing plants, the access points may need to be installed as high as 50 feet above the ground. Some form of environmental protection and AC power may be required.

The practical signal span of an access point is typically limited to 100 meters. For a large site or campus requiring dozens or even hundreds of access points, a telecommunications grid consisting of UTP cabling to network switches and fiber backbones to core switches must be designed and implemented.
